Discover hidden treasures in your neighbourhood and give unused items a new life while keeping them out of landfills. The ultimate treasure hunt is happening on September 9 and 10, 2023, and we want you to be part of it!
Here’s how to join the fun:
- Gather reusable items you no longer need from your home—books, electronics, toys, kitchen gadgets, and more.
- Mark them with a “Free” label and place them on your property next to the sidewalk or curb during the event days.
- Anyone can pick up these items for use—it’s like a free garage sale at your doorstep!
- Remove items not picked up by 5:00 pm Sunday and donate them to local charitable organizations.
Rules of Participation:
- Only items labelled as “free” are part of the event. Make your sign or download our template to join in.
- Keep sidewalks and fire hydrants clear, obey traffic laws, and be considerate of others.
- Remember not to share unsafe or dangerous items like mattresses, toilets or certain infant and safety equipment. Visit Guide to second-hand products (including children’s products) – Summary – Canada.ca
Let’s keep our community tidy and avoid cluttering public spaces. Remove all items after the event. Get ready to give and receive within your community! Let’s make this year’s event successful by reducing waste and finding hidden treasures. Happy hunting!

Help us celebrate the 75th anniversary of WHCA by planting a “legacy tree” on your property this September. Fall is considered the best time to plant a tree! Let’s leave a legacy of 75 new trees that we can enjoy for the next 75 years in West Hillhurst.
High quality 15 gallon-pail sized trees are available for just $75/tree (subsidized from over $200), thanks to the generous support of Foothills Nurseries and the West Hillhurst Community Association.
