Don’t Miss AppleSauce Basketball!

Throughout the year at the WHCA, we offer the Applesauce Basketball Program and it has been massively popular year-round. Both winter sessions filled up almost overnight, but luckily there are still spots available for the ages 5 to 7 program starting February 25. Register for that session here.  Only 3 spots remain!

For those looking to find out more about Applesauce Basketball, it is a 6-week program led by a basketball coach to teach youth all the skills and drills for when they hit the b-ball court. Participants receive a reversible jersey and will leave the program with greater confidence in their basketball skills. Sessions run year-round and we will send out updates in advance for sessions so you will have lots of opportunity to register if you happen to miss previous Applesauce Programming.

So snag your spot today and we will see you on the court!

Calgary’s Celebration of Sport

Calgary is hub for sport.  From beginner level sports to professional teams and organization, the community is strong.  Not only is the passion strong within the community, it is within those people and organizations that volunteer and give back the gift of sport to others.

As reported on the VisitCalgary website, “In support of sport in Calgary, The Celebration of Sport 2018 event recognizes the people and organizations that make Calgary an incredible world-class sports city.

This year’s event will be comprised of a late afternoon reception, short awards ceremony and an expert panel discussion on sport. The event will be memorable and offer excellent networking opportunities with athletes, sport organizations, business and community leaders, and government officials. More than 500 attendees are expected this year.

100% of proceeds from the event will go to support amateur sport in the city, and programs that encourage sport participation, like All Sport One Day.

Hybrid Hockey League

The West Hillhurst Community Association is proud to host the 2018 Spring Cross-Ice 3-on-3 League (+ stick-handling camp and detailed skating lessons).

Keep your skills and talent sharp over the spring / summer months and learn the benefits of Cross-Ice hockey.  As stated by Hockey Canada, “the difference in skill-development opportunities with cross-ice or half-ice hockey are significant:  players receive five times more passes and take six times more shots.  They’re called on to have to make more decisions more quickly and are overall, more engaged in the game.
“Skater aren’t the only ones seeing an increase in action; the goalies are also learning more quickly the basics of better body positioning.  Our goalies are actually exhausted at the end.  Instead of facing 15 shots, they’re facing 20 to 30 shots every nine minutes.  It’s just shot after shot after shot at them.”

Games will be played in each end-zone and the neutral-zone will be used each Tuesday to teach detailed balance and edge work.  Each of the sessions will be taught taught by one of three professional figure skating coaches.  These are individual lessons as there will be at least two coaches per ice time.  There will also be a full one hour session on May 3.  These sessions are included in the cost of the league.

There are multiple age and skill divisions available at a cost of $350.00 that includes 13,  one (1) hour ice times on Tuesdays & Thursdays during April 10 – May 29, 2018.  For more information or to register, contact info@hybridhockey.ca
