“2018 brings forth the 28th iteration of the annual Calgary Pride Parade – the signature event that colours all of downtown Calgary with rainbows and smiles! Originally a small march of LGBT Calgarians, some of whom wore masks and bags over their faces to protect from persecution, the event has grown in leaps and bounds to become the second biggest parade in Calgary.

“Today, Calgary Pride welcomes non profit organizations, businesses big and small, politicians, political parties, churches, unions, and more, all to come together and celebrate Calgary’s diversity. This incredible gathering of inclusive and diverse organizations draws tens of thousands of spectators each year, and showcases the diversity of Calgary’s community.”

Calgary Pride Week

Calgary Pride Week officially runs August 24 – September 3, 2018. This is a week to show the cultural diversity, inclusion and support from companies and people across southern Alberta. Through out the week, there are many adult-only events taking place, but more importantly, over the weekend, there will be tons of family-friendly, age appropriate activities taking place. AUGUST 24 to SEPTEMBER 3, 2018 Celebrating 27 Years of Pride! The annual Calgary Pride Festival celebrates our city’s diverse and inclusive community, through a variety of events throughout the week. Join us for concerts, plays, parties, history walks, panel discussions, and the free signature Parade and Pride in the Park. PARADE The signature Calgary Pride Parade is one of the most colourful celebrations of the year! This family friendly parade sees upwards of 60,000 spectators as nearly 150 entries from community groups, corporations, politicians, churches and public services roll through the heart of downtown, and celebrates the tremendous diversity of Calgary’s community. PRIDE IN THE PARK Immediately following the Parade, join us for this massive free outdoor party, complete with live music from local, national and international performers, a marketplace of community groups and pride inspired merchandise, a selection of some of the best food trucks rolling the streets of Calgary, the Village Brewery beer gardens, and a family zone with crafts and activities for kids of all ages.

Pride: A Conversation

Join your WHCA during Calgary Pride Week (August 24 – September 3, 2018) at Pride: A Conversation. This informational session will focus on a couple key areas:

During Calgary Pride celebrations, the WHCA is hosting an informational session and Q&A with a panel of seven (7) interesting LGTBQ+ Calgarians. This discussion is open to everyone.

Our Goals:

– Build community and increase inclusion within West Hillhurst.

– Increase awareness and understanding about:
– Sexuality and gender issues
– Calgary’s LGTBQ+ community

– Provide attendees with local LGTBQ+ resources / services*

Join us on August 29, 2018 from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at West Hillhurst Community Association. Registration is required by noon on August 29, however, we will be accepting drop-ins. Registers will have a chance to win a door price. If registration limits are not reached, this program will NOT run.
