The Calgary Stampede season is in full-swing!  Get ready to party over the next nine days!  Although the city seems to shut during it, there are always an extensive list of events, festivals and breakfast’s to attend.  Don’t miss West Hillhurst Community Associations FREE public Stampede Breakfast!

  1.  Stampede Breakfast – Join your WHCA on July 12, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. as we celebrate the Calgary Stampede.  Come on down for a FREE pancake breakfast, enjoy the entertainment and come visit with your neighbours.  The BatterBoys will be serving pancakes, sausage, juice and more!  Don’t miss it!
  2. Pride:  A Conversation – Join your WHCA as we celebrate Calgary Pride Week from August 24 – September 3, 2018.  The WHCA will be hosting a informational presentation with professionals, LGTBQ+ community members and more, during a panel discussion about: Education/ information about sexual health and LGTBQ+ community, information on local resources and support groups and building rapport & inclusion within West Hillhurst and the LGTBQ+ community.
  3.   Taste of the Neighbourhood – 18+ ADULT-ONLY evening.  Sample some of Calgary’s best local food and beverage options, bid on silent auction items and get lost in the high-stake mock casino games.  This year, Taste of the Neighbourhood is sport themed.  Wear your favourite jersey.  The WHCA has also partnered up with the Calgary Food Bank and will be accepting non-perishable food donations at the event and throughout the month of September.
  4.  Village Brewery Rebate Month – The WHCA is still collecting your Village Brewery receipts until the end of June.  Village Brewery, in collaboration with Federation of Calgary Communities, will give a 15% rebate to non-profit community associations from their total of collected receipts.   Remember to bring them in!

Jayman BUILT MS Walk

Register now for the Jayman BUILT MS Walk, June 10th at Prince’s Island Park.

MS impacts all Canadians, and a future free of MS is achievable. By participating in the 2K, 5K or 8K MS Walk, you are helping raise much needed funds for MS research and services for people affected by the disease.

WHCA Community Garage Sale

Are you looking to have a garage sale this year?  Time to clean out the house, yard and garage?  Not sure what date will work best for your sale?  Why not join the West Hillhurst Community Garage Sale and your neighbours for a day of community spirit.  Help #YYC celebrate Neighbour Day in Calgary!

On Saturday, June 16, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., register your home for Community Garage Sale and the WHCA will provide custom yellow lawn signs.  The WHCA will market the event throughout the community!  Registration is FREE!!!  Closer to the event date, the WHCA will provide maps of homes that have been registered in our front lobby or online.

Spruce Spring Festival

In collaboration with the Spruce Up the Neighbourhood event, the WHCA is having their family and kids Spring Festival.  Not only will the community of West Hillhurst be sprucing up their community, but the WHCA will be offering:

Spruce Up the Neighbourhood

Join your WHCA during the West Hillhurst Community Spruce-Up the Neighbourhood clean-up event. help reduce the waste going into our landfills and support community programs with recyclable donations. Attend the free event, clean out the house, pass on your recyclable donations and enjoy the family friendly activities that will be set up.

The WHCA will have a large number of vendors accepting household items and waste.  Below, check out what type of items we will be excepting for destroying.  Please note that some vendors do charge for removal of certain items.

Otafest 2018

Otafest is a 3-day Japanese Cultural and Animation Festival at the Calgary Telus Convention Centre.

Frequently Asked Questions

I only want to go to the exhibitor hall / artist alley – do I need to buy a pass?

Yes. Only guests wearing wristbands will be admitted to Otafest rooms and halls, including our exhibitor hall and artist alley.

Why do you ask for my age, gender, etc. when I buy my tickets?

Your demographic information is anonymized and used purely for statistical purposes. We want to have a good idea of our festival’s demographics, we use this information to approach potential sponsors and improve future events.

I’ve bought my tickets online, now what?

You will get an e-mail with your tickets. Either print them out or save them to your mobile device and bring them to our pre-registration pickup event or the pre-registration desk at Otafest to pick up your wristband. If you didn’t get the e-mail, check your spam folder, then e-mail registration@otafest.com and we will help you out!

Can my mom/sister/friend pick up my wristband for me?

No. You must pick up your own wristband.

What is your autograph policy / Can I bring multiple items to get signed / Are there autograph fees?

May @ the WHCA

May is here and we truly hope that the snow stays away.  It’s time to enjoy the warmth of the spring sun and the freshness of May flowers.  It’s time to enjoy some out door activities such as soccer, football, running, biking etc.  Does that not tickle your fancy?  Why not check out what the West Hillhurst Community Association has happening in May.

WHCA Neighbourhood Advertising

The WHCA and community volunteers will be walking the neighbourhood in the next couple weeks.  We will be knocking on your doors to showcase what the WHCA has to offer for the 2018 season including our member benefits, programs, events, within the Health Club, rental spaces and more.

One of the larger Community Associations in Calgary, we want you to know the privileges that come with becoming a member.  Come experience the daily pickleball play, squash courts, health club, ice arena and take advantage of the rental programs such as Summit Kid and the No-Contact Hockey League (NCHL).  Senior programming runs daily in the Go-Getters room.
