Back-to-School Check List for Parents

As per usual, the summer flew by.  Kids are already getting ready or preparing to head back to school and classes for another year.  It tends to be a very busy and stressful time for parents, who are in fact rushing to get the kids ready for the start of the year.  Below, a short list of suggested tips that will make the transition easier on you, the parent, but also the kids.  Thank you to Suburban Pediatrics for the great suggestions:

1. Post your child’s class schedule.

It’s important to know what classes your child has and on what days. That way, you can stay informed on what they’re doing in school and ask specific questions such as: “What did you do in English today?”

2. Wait until you receive a school supplies list for shopping.

Shopping before getting a school supplies list can result in overspending. Some teachers are specific about the folders, pens and other supplies students use. Once you know exactly what supplies your child needs, make a list and keep track of the supplies throughout the year.

3. Keep track of school forms.

Organize all school forms as they come in. After filling them out completely, make copies and store them somewhere safe for the future.

4. Re-adjust bedtime and activities a week prior to school starting.

Start putting your child to bed ten minutes earlier each night to slowly adjust from the lax, summer sleep schedule.

5. Plan pickups and drops offs.

Different schools have different restrictions when it comes to dropping children off at school and picking them up. Make sure you ask the school if there are any rules before the first day. If your child is riding the bus, make sure you review the stops with them so they are prepared.

We want to wish all students and parents an educational and fun 2018 – 2019 school year!

Red Rock Diner – A Performance

Description

Stage West Theatre’s 2017/2018 season closes out with the musical Red Rock Diner. Classic ’50s hits like “Crying,” and “Jailhouse Rock,” soundtrack this infectiously fun musical about coming of age during the 1950s’ burgeoning rock ‘n’ roll scene. Taking place at the Stage West Theatre Restaurant, audience members can treat themselves to a meal and a show.

“Toe-tapping beats, a nostalgic song list…an enjoyable summer performance.”
– Monica Miller, The Vancouver Observer

“…the energy is so contagious…well-choreographed fun.”
– Samantha Thompson, The Runner

“Inspiring entertainment…a palpable energy that has the crowd moving.”
– katherinerene.com

Five teens come of age while DJ Red Robinson plays the biggest hits of the 1950s. From the raucous “Great Balls of Fire” and “Jailhouse Rock” to ballads like “Cry”, this infectious musical captures the excitement and innocence of the city’s burgeoning rock ‘n’ roll scene.

Inspired by Red Robinson’s early days in radio, playwright Dean Regan created Red Rock Diner to showcase Robinson’s legendary broadcasting career and influential voice that he used to spin the records that shaped the rock ‘n’ roll landscape of the 1950s. Filled with energy, phenomenal talent, and great music, Red Rock Diner will leave you singing and dancing along to all of the songs you grew up with and have come to love!
