Our Coaching Team
The skating programs at the West Hillhurst Skating Club are instructed by our highly qualified team of National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) certified Professional Coaches. Their high level of skating expertise and experience are reflected in the quality of our programs and the successes achieved by our skaters.
All certified Professional Coaches have First Aid certifications and abide by Skate Canada’s Coaches’ Code of Ethics.
Amy Cardinal, Skate Coach
• NCCP Regional Coach Certified, NCCP Canskate Coach Certified, NCCP PowerSkating Coach Trained
• Competitive skater for 8 years and competed up to the Junior level
• Triple Gold Test Skater (Free Skate, Ice Dance and Skills)
• Coaching all levels and disciplines of figure skating since 2011 and has a wealth of knowledge in training power skaters
• Amy’s passion for skating started at the age of 5 and she is excited and enthusiastic to continue to deliver her knowledge and passion for the sport to the next generation of skaters
• Has a flare for choreography and a passion for staying fit off the ice and is trained in providing dryland and off-ice programming, tailored to all levels of skaters
• Currently works as Fisheries Technologist at Golder (an Environmental Consulting company) and enjoys traveling across Canada for work
Jaclyn Holmes, Skate Coach
• NCCP Regional Coach Certified
• Triple Gold Test Skater (Ice Dance, Interpretive and Skills)
• Expertise with a dance background in contemporary, ballet and jazz disciplines
• Passionate about flexibility and the fundamentals around safe and effective stretching. Recently completed her certification in the Alexa Flexibility Training course (module 2)
• A U of C graduate with a bachelors of Nursing and currently works for AHS
Sarah Neumann, Skate Coach
• NCCP CanSkate Certified
• NCCP Regional Coach In-Training
• Sarah has been skating for over 15 years and has 5 years of coaching experience with Skate Canada Regional Trained and CanSkate Certified status. She has competed in FreeSkate, Interpretive, Synchronized Skating, and Solo Dance competitions and has completed her Gold Skills, Dance, and Interpretive tests. She is currently training to complete her Diamond Dance tests. Sarah is an undergraduate student at the University of Calgary where she studies Environmental Science with a concentration in Geography. She has also worked in Conservation Education at the Calgary Zoo and has a passion for photography and singing in choir!
Rachel Demers, Skate Coach
• NCCP Regional Coach Certified
• Rachel started her skating journey at the West Hillhurst Community over 10 years ago and still competes in Synchronized Skating with her team to this day
• Triple Gold Test skater
• 6 years of coaching experience and aims to promote fun through physical activity, while also helping skaters to learn new, challenging skills and achieve their individual goals
• Currently attending the University of Calgary, pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology and plans to obtain a Masters of Occupational Therapy after her graduation
Krista Paul, Skate Coach
• NCCP CanSkate In-Training
• Skating for 12 years and coaching for 2 years
• Gold Ice Dance
• Currently attending the University of Calgary in the Bachelor of Arts with a major in Sociology
Lyah Ng, Skate Coach
• NCCP Regional Coach Trained; Canskate Coach Certified
• Quadruple gold tests; dance, skating skills, interpretive (artistic), and freeskate.
• Extensive competitive figure skating background of over 10 years in freeskate and ice dance.
• Provincial medalist.
• Coaching since 2014 for the CanSkate programs and for figure skating in the STAR levels.
• Currently a student and research assistant at UofC’s Cumming School of Medicine in Health Sciences.
Sophie Le Gall, Skate Coach
• NCCP CanSkate Certified, Canskate Coach Certified
• Hi, my name is Sophie. I am from France. I have practiced figure skating since I was 4 years old and I am passionate about the sport. I started with dance and then moved to individual. I coached children and adults in France for 3 years. I am very happy to coach in Canada. I have my Canskate certification and I am on my way to get my Starskate certification (Regional Coach Trained). See you on the ice.
Ariana Alford, Skate Coach
• NCCP CanSkate Certified
• Triple Gold Tests (Skills, Dance, Interpretive); Senior Silver Part 1 Freeskate
• Has been skating for 15 years and continues to train in freeskate in pursuit of achieving Quad Gold; competed nationally in synchronized skating for 1 year
• 2 years of coaching experience
• Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical/biomedical engineering at the University of Calgary; interested in using this background to pursue work in sports medicine
• Part of my bucket list includes: visit the 7 Wonders of the World + travel Europe, go skydiving, attend a World or Olympic figure skating event, ride a hot air balloon, see my favourite singers in concert, attend a Broadway show, become fluent in at least 1 other language
